The Federal Government of Nigeria using the RENEWED HOPE mantra has launch another program. This program is term Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). This program is launch for the Nigerian Students who are doing their studies in the various higher institutions around the country. ABOUT NIGERIA EDUCATION LOAN FUND
The student’s loan is design to help Nigerian students who have financial problems. The program is establish by the Federal Government of Nigeria to break financial barriers in higher education. These problems ranges from difficulties on paying school fees, and upkeep. According to Data insight, the student Loan Initiative is Revolutionizing Education Accessibility across Nigeria.
The loan scheme is presently applicable firstly to only students of Nigeria’s Federal Tertiary institutions. Other states institutions will benefit from this program during the second phase of the program. According to the media and public relations officer of the Federal Ministry of Education, Nasir Ayitoyo said that the various steps involve in applying for the loan is very simple and that applicants must follow it.
STAGES TO APPLY FOR NELFUND
STAGE ONE
Interested applicants show follow the steps below for a successful registration.
- Click here to visit the Nigeria Education Loan Fund registration portal.
- Then click on APPLY NOW and
- Then click on GET STARTED
- The fourth step will required applicant student to answer pertinent questions on the page by clicking YES, I AM A NIGERIAN. This will take you to step five of the registration.
- On step five (5), applicants to VERIFY THEIR EDUCATIONAL INFORMATION. This is the stage you are to select your school from one of the drop-down. Then provide your MATRICULATION NUMBER to check if your school has uploaded your academic details. Completion of this will then take you to step six.
- On step six (6) click on VERIFY WITH JAMB. Here, you have to enter your JAMB details on the screen. (Also note that students who’s NIN has not been registered with JAMB (Portal) must have an input field where they will be required to enter their NIN for verification / validation). This then take you to step seven (7)
- Then proceed to step Seven (7). On this stage create an account by entering your EMAIL ADDRESS (preferably Gmail), desired PASSWORD. Then CONFIRM PASSWORD in the field provide and lastly click on CREATE ACCOUNT. A verification email will be sent to you email inbox.
- Step eight (8), on this stage click the email verification link sent to your email. This action concludes the process of creating an account

STAGE TWO
On completion of profile creating, after successful registration, an applicant would need to click on LOGIN on the registration portal and do the following:
- Enter your EMAIL ADDRESS and PASSWORD
- Click on the PROCEED TO CONTACT DETAILS This will help you to update contact details with your current information which include; phone (GSM) number, full residential address, state of residence and your local government are of residence.
- Then click on PROCEED TO EDUCATIONAL DETAILS.
- Applicants will be required here to UPDATE YOUR EDUCATIONAL DETAILS. Here, you are required to select the following: Higher Institution and input your school Matriculation Number.
- Then click PROCEED TO ACCOUNT DETAILS.
- Applicant are required to verify their BVN by doing the following: enter your BVN, select your Bank Name and enter your Account Number. Then click on SAVE CHANGES to complete creating your profile.
HOW TO APPLY FOR LOAN
STAGE TWO
Please do the following to apply for loan.
- Step one (1) login into the application and click on REQUEST FOR STUDENT LOAN button at the top right hand side of the portal home screen or loan page.
- On step two (2) if you are looking for loan on UPKEEP, click on the check box, and then click continue. More so, if you are need loan for institutional charge click on
- Step three applicants should UPLOAD THEIR SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS. Thus, admission letter is compulsory while applicants’ students ID and Institution Invoice are optional.
- Step three (3) tick the checkbox to accept the loan policy and declaration and click CONTINUE
- On step four (4) applicant must make sure they read the loan overview and tick the check boxes for both TERMS and CONDITIONS and GSI MANDATE.
- Then click SUBMIT APPLICATION. Wait for further information from the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND)
