What are the programmes offered in FCT College of Nursing Sciences Gwagwalada, Abuja?

The following programmes are offered FCT School of Nursing Sciences Abuja:

National Diploma (ND) / Higher National Diploma (HND) Nursing Science

National Diploma (ND) / Higher National Diploma (HND) Nursing Science at FCT College of Nursing Sciences Gwagwalada, Abuja is four years non-terminal programme. More so, the programme has been approved by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and also accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).

Graduates of the National Diploma (ND) / Higher National Diploma (HND) Nursing Science at FCT School of Nursing proceed for the compulsory one year internship programme. Furthermore, they get inducted as Registered Nurses (RN) by Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN). Lastly, they also proceed for the one year compulsory National Youth Service Corp (NYSC).

 Basic General Nursing and Basic Midwifery Programme

The Basic General Nursing and Basic Midwifery programmes are 3 years programmes of six semesters each. More so, the Basic General Nursing programme is designed to train students on basic nursing skills. While the Basic Midwifery programme is for the training on students on how to take care of pregnant, delivery and after delivery of women.

Furthermore, both Basic General Nursing and Basic Midwifery programmes have been accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN). Thus, graduates of the programmes are inducted as Registered Nurses (RN) or Registered Midwifery respectively by the NMCN in addition.

Requirements for Admission

Interested applicants for admission into FCT School of Nursing / midwifery Gwagwalada, Abuja must possess the following before the go ahead to apply for admission;

  • First, all prospective applicants must have at least five credit passes in their O-level result relevant subjects. These relevant subjects must include; Biology, chemistry, Physics, mathematics and English Language. Furthermore, these credit passes must be obtained at a maximum of two sittings. More so, applicant using NABTEB result must obtained their five credit pass at one sitting.
  • Prospective applicants for admission into National Diploma (ND) / Higher National Diploma (HND) Nursing Science in FCT College of Nursing Sciences Gwagwalada, Abuja must have participated in the just concluded UTME and score the college cut off mark and above. The official cut of mark of the college is 180 and above in the following subjects; Use of English, Biology, Physics and Chemistry. Those with different subjects UTME combination will not be considered for admission in addition.
  • Interested applicants must not be less than 16 years of age. Underage applicants will not be considered in addition.
  • National Identification Number (NIN) is also compulsory.
  • Furthermore, interested applicant for admission into National Diploma (ND) / Higher National Diploma (HND) Nursing Science must have registered for JAMB and chose the FCT College of Nursing Sciences Abuja as their first choice institution. Those who did not chose the college must carry out a change of institution on JAMB portal in addition.
  • Lastly, interested applicants must know that they will be subjected to taking entrance examination which will cover the following subjects; mathematics, English language, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Current affairs. The exams will be through Computer Based Test (CBT).
