The following programmes are offered in Zamfara State School of Nursing and Midwifery:

National Diploma Nursing Programme:

The National Diploma (ND) Nursing Programme is a two years and four semesters programme. The graduates of the National Diploma Nursing proceed for their Higher National Diploma (HND) nursing programmes which is also a two years and four semester programme. These programmes has been approved by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN). More so, graduates of the Higher National Diploma (HND) Nursing programmes proceed for their one year internship programme. When the complete their internship programme, they also proceed to their one year compulsory National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) in addition.

Basic Nursing Programme

In Zamfara State College of Nursing, the Basic Nursing Programme is a three (3) years and six (6) semesters programme. More so, the programme has been approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN). Lastly, graduates of the basic nursing programme get inducted as Registered Nurses (RN) by the NMCN after taking and passing their final qualifying examination by the body.

Community Nursing Programme

The Community Nursing Programme is a two (2) years programme of four semesters at Zamfara State College of Nursing Gasau. More so, the programme is designed for the training of students to render nursing services at various healthcare facilities at the local communities. Also, the programme has been approved to operate in the college by the Nurses and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).

Foundation Year Programme

The Foundation Year Programme in Zamfara State College of Nursing Gasau is remedial programme which was initiated by Women for Health (W4H) organization. Thus, the reason for the programme is for ensuring increase in numbers of female health workers.

Post Basic Nursing Programme

The Post Basic Nursing Programme is an 18 months of three (3) semesters programme. The programmes is meant for Registered Midwifes (RM) who wishes to pursue their carrier in basic nursing. Lastly, the Post Basic Nursing programme has been approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) to run in Zamfara State College of Nursing Gasau.

Basic Midwifery Programme

The Basic Midwifery Programme at Zamfara State College of Nursing is a three (3) years of six semesters programme. More so, the programme has been accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) to operate in the college. Furthermore, graduates of Basic Midwifery programme get inducted as Registered Midwifes by the NCMN after their final qualifying examination supervised by the Council.

Admission Requirements

Prospective applicants for admission into Zamfara State school of nursing and Midwifery must possess the following before going ahead to apply;

  • First, applicants must have at least five credit passes in their O-level science subjects. These subjects must include; Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and English Language at a maximum of two sittings. Those using NABTEB must have their five credit passes at one sitting.
  • Candidates for National Diploma (ND) Nursing must have registered for JAMB. More so, they must carry out a change of institution and chose Zamfara State College of Nursing as their first choice institution. Furthermore, they must have score at least 140 in their UTME in the following subjects; Use of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Lastly, they must upload their O-level result on JAMB CAPS in addition.
  • More so, applicants for Community Nursing Programme must have at least two credit passes in English Language and Biology and two credit passes from the following subjects; Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at a maximum of two sittings. Those using NABTEB must have their four credit passes at one sitting.
  • Furthermore, applications for community midwifery programme is for female only. Also, it is also open for indigene of Zamfara State who are also resident in their various communities in addition.
  • Applicants for Post Basic Nursing must be Registered Midwife (RM). They must have their practicing license in addition.
