Brief History of Kebbi State College of Nursing Science

The Kebbi College of Nursing Sciences was establish as a School of Nursing in 2002 by the Government of Kebbi State. At that time the school train students on Basic Nursing and basic Midwifery programmes only. In the year 2021, the Kebbi State School of Nursing was raised to the status of a college of nursing by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN). This means that the school can train students on National Diploma (ND) Nursing and Higher National Diploma (HND) Nursing which is the current trend. National Diploma (ND) Higher National Diploma (HND) Basic Nursing

The National Diploma (ND) Higher National Diploma (HND) Basic Nursing programme at Kebbi State College of Nursing is a four years programme. Two years for National Diploma (ND) and two years of Higher National Diploma (HND). On conclusion of the programme, graduates are registered as Registered Nurse (RN). Lastly, graduate proceed to the one year compulsory National Youth Service Corp (NYSC).

Basic Nursing Programme

The Basic Nursing programme is a three years with 6 semester programme at Kebbi State College of Nursing. More so, the programme is further divided into 2 semesters for each academic session. Lastly, graduates of the basic nursing programme get inducted as Registered Nurse (RN) by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

Basic Midwifery Programme

The Basic Midwifery programme takes care of training future midwifes who take care of prenatal care, antenatal care and post-natal care. More so, just like the basic nursing programme, the basic midwifery programme is a three year programme with six semester programme. It is further divided into two semesters for each academic session. Lastly, applicants get inducted as Registered Midwifes (RM) by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).

Post Basic Nursing and Post Basic Midwifery Programme

The Post Basic Nursing and Post Basic Midwifery Programme at Kebbi State College of Nursing are 18 months each programmes. They have equally three academic semester. Furthermore, these programmes are designed for Midwifes who wishes to be Registered Nurse and Registered Nurse (RN) who wishes to be Midwifes. Lastly, applicants for this programmes must have their practicing license.

Community Nursing Programme;

The Community Nursing Programme is designed to train competent community-based cadre of nursing practitioners that will managed and implement nursing services to communities especially at the grass root level. Thus, the graduates of this programmes will practice at the various communities existing in difference villages.

Community Midwifery Programmes

Just as Community Nursing Programme, the community Midwifery programme is a two years programme. It is aimed at preparing a lower cadre of competent and skilled midwifes for communities. They are to provide antenatal services to the expectant mothers, primary health care centres and other health facilities at the rural communities.

What are the Requirements for Admissions in Kebbi State College of Nursing Sciences?

  • Applicants for basic nursing, basic midwifery and ND/HND must have at least credit passes in the Biology, Mathematics, English Language, Physics and Chemistry in their O-level result(s). The results must not be more than two sittings.
