The Union is in charge of spearheading Africa’s rapid integration and sustainable development by promoting solidarity, unity, cooperation and cohesion among the people of African States as well as developing New Partnership Worldwide. The Headquarters of African is located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

In their pursue to attain this objective, the organization of African Union intends to build its capacity to deliver, among others, the implementation of its organizational structure. In line with this pursuit, the African Union Commission therefore invites qualified applicants who are citizens of Members State for the African Union Internship Program.

PURPOSE OF THE AFRICAN UNION INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

The African Union Internship Program will provides an opportunity to intended interns to complement their educational experience. This internship will also develop their skills and experience through The African Union. African Union Internship Program is a full-time engagement.  Which individuals from divers’ academic backgrounds will be given opportunity to gain professional exposure within the African Union.

The African Union is also an organization which promotes respects for diversity and team work this therefore prompt them to encourage all qualified individuals to apply for this Internship Program. Furthermore, applicants are encourage to have a keen interest in the work of the African Union and to demonstrate the ability to interact with individuals from various cultural and religious backgrounds and beliefs.

The African Union Internship Program is aims at exposing participants to workings of the African Union at an early stage of their professional careers and to strengthen their personal and professional skills. The Internship will also provide an avenue for participants to gain hands-on experience in various applicable fields while also learning in an intercultural environment. Furthermore, participants will also give support to the African Union through participant’s possession of adequate knowledge and skills in relevant areas. This will also serve as a potential grooming ground for future African Leaders in addition.

FOCUS AREA OF AFRICAN UNION INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Generally, the Interns will assist in providing administrative and technical support for effective implementation of African Union Programmes, projects and activities in the following Department / Directorates:

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR AFRICAN UNION INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Interested applicants are required to possess the requirement below proceeding to apply.

  • Applicants must be actively enrolled in at least the final year of a Bachelor’s degree program OR.
  • Applicants must have completed and obtained a Bachelor’s degree or advanced / post graduate (Masters) qualification in related academic field of studies.
  • Must be a national of a Member State of the African Union.
  • Must be a full-time students who is currently enrolled in the final year of their Bachelors or graduate school program
  • Applicants must be fluent in at least one of the African Union working languages (Arabic, French, English or Portuguese).
  • Applicant must not be more than thirty-two (32) years of age at the time of selection.
  • Must possess the highest standard of moral conduct and integrity
  • Applicants must not have been convicted of any serious criminal offence. This is in exclusion of minor traffic offences
  • Applicants prior work experience is not required for the internship positions.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR AFRICAN UNION INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Applicants should take serious note of the following:

  • First, the African Union will have no financial obligation towards interns. Thus, interns travel arrangements and cost of accommodation and living expenses will be the responsibility of the interns.
  • Secondly, the African Union commission in charge of the Internship program will use all reasonable efforts to assist the interns in obtaining their entry and residence visas.
  • More so, Interns will not be entitled to any travel compensation.
  • Furthermore, Interns will be authorized once only for three (3) months renewable one time for any candidate.
  • Lastly, interns are not entitled to medical travel or medical evacuation to and from the internship location at the expenses of the Commission. Thus, it is pertinent to note that Interns shall therefore have an individual insurance coverage throughout the duration of the internship.

REQUIRED SKILLS

The following skills are required of Interns:

  • First, Interns must be proficient in computer skills (MS Word, Excel and Power Point)
  • Secondly, interns must also be proficient wit E-mail and internet applications.
  • More so, they must have good interpersonal skills
  • Furthermore, interns must have the ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Lastly, interns must have proficiency in one of the AU officials working languages (French, Portuguese, Spanish, English, Arabic, and Kiswahili) and also being fluency in another African Union Language(s) is an added advantage.

METHOD OF APPLICATIONS

Online method of application is use for the African Union Internship Program. You need to register before you login if you are a first time user of African Union online registration system. You are to provide relevant information as possible in addition. Lastly, applicants must submit the following supporting documents with during online application.

  • A letter of motivation indicating what they expect to gain out of the internship program.
  • A copy of valid passport or national identity card of applicants
  • Also, the Certified copies of relevant academic certificates
  • Updated curriculum vitae (CV)
  • Recommendation letter for internship from the current institution of learning of the applicants.
  • On submission of the online application form by the applicants, a confirmation email will be sent to the applicants email address that their application has been successfully received. There, endeavor to use an active email address for your online application.
