What are the Requirements for Admission into Post Basic Otorhinolaryngology Nursing National Ear Care Centre?

The followings are the requirements for admission into Post Basic Otorhinolaryngology Nursing National Ear Care Centre;

Applicants must have completed their Basic Nursing Programme and obtained their practicing License. Also, having some years of practicing experience is added advantage.

Candidates must have at least five credit pass in O-level relevant subjects. These five subjects must include mathematics, english language, physics, biology and chemistry at not more than two sittings.

What are the Programmes Offered in School of Post Basic Otorhinolaryngology Nursing National Ear Care Centre Kaduna?

The following programmes are offered in Post Basic Otorhinolaryngology Nursing National Ear Care Centre;

Post Basic Otorhinolaryngology Nursing: According to the academic calendar of the school is a twelve (12) months Ear, Nose and Throat Programme for Registered Nurses (RN). The academic calendar of this course starts from November to November each academic year. For the Post Basic Otorhinolaryngology Nursing, sales of application forms for admission starts between Match till May of every year. Entrance Examination holds in June of each year in addition.

What are the Training Programmes offered in Post Basic Otorhinolaryngology Nursing National Ear Care Centre;

The following training programmes are offered in National Ear Care Centre Kaduna via School of Post Basic ORL Nursing Science:

Primary Ear Care Course; The Primary Ear Care Course is a four (4) week programme designed for Community health Officers / Assistants’ Community Health Extension Workers and spanning to Community Based General Nurses. More so, the Primary Ear Care Course also organises individual trainings for State Local Government Service Commissions. This is only for relevant officers of the commissions based on arrangement. This programmes takes place twice a year.

Refresher Course: The Refresher programme is designed for the training of ORL-Nurses that are unable to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) after five (5) of graduation from School of Basic Otorhinolaryngology Nursing programme.

Clinical Experience: The Clinical Experience is a course organized by the School Post Basic Otorhinolaryngology Nursing National Ear Care Centre. It is a four weeks short course on ENT organised for students undergoing training in other health institutions with Kaduna State and beyond.

Other Training Programmes Include

Train the Trainers: This is also a course organised by Post Basic Otorhinolaryngology Nursing National Ear Care Centre for special training of Medical Health Officers and the general public across Nigeria. The Train the Trainer is usually conducted in conjunction with Christoffel Blinden Mission (CBM) and the World Health Organisation (WHO). WHO provides the curriculum used for the Train the Trainer Course to ensure success for the course. Train the Trainer holds annually.

Workshops on Danger of Traditional Uvelectomy: This workshop holds within March / April of every year. The aim of the Workshop on Danger of Traditional Uvelectomy is for the eradication of traditional barbers (wanzami) for the reduction on the rate of mortality and morbidity of children. Furthermore, the target participants in the Workshops on Danger of Traditional Uvelectomy are the traditional barbers and also Health personnel working in all Primary Healthcare Centres and the general public in addition.

In-House Workshops: Post Basic Otorhinolaryngology Nursing National Ear Care Centre frequently holds in-house professional workshops for staff for the improvements of their general efficiencies and confidence.
