Deutschlandstipendium Scholarship programme seeks to sponsor High-achieving students from all over the world. These must be those who wish to study Bachelors and Master’s Degree programs at one of the public and state recognised universities in Germany. Application Criteria for Deutschlandstipendium Scholarship programme
The selection criteria for the awarding of beneficiaries for the Deutschlandstipendium Scholarship programme are based on the laws of Trier University of Applied Sciences. - political and
- community commitment
Please Note: only commitment dating back not later than 3 years at the time of application for the Deutschlandstipendium Scholarship programme will be considered. Furthermore, Personal and family backgrounds of applicant are also taken into consideration.
In addition to the above criteria, applicants must meet the following requirements to qualify for the Deutschlandstipendium Scholarship programme:
- The Deutschlandstipendium Scholarship can be awarded to students who are enrolled in undergraduate and Master’s degree programs at Trier University of Applied Sciences during the grant period. The regular grant period for this is 2 semesters in addition.
- The standard period of study set for the degree program in Deutschlandstipendium Scholarship programme may not be exceeded during the grant period. More so, exceptions can be made for serious reasons such as disability, pregnancy, care and upbringing of a child, study-related stay abroad. This criteria is according to § 7.1 of the statutes. This requires an informal application by the applicant or beneficiary.
- Furthermore, there are other material support based on talent and performance that amounts to an average of 30 euros or more per month. This may not be received at the same time as the Deutschlandstipendium Scholarship programme. Selection Criteria for Deutschlandstipendium Scholarship
Interested applicants for Deutschlandstipendium Scholarship programme should know that applications are assessed for selection of beneficiaries on the basis of a fixed list of criteria. In this case, points are awarded, which 75% are allocated to the grade, while 5% to academic aptitude, with 10% allocated to social commitment and another 10% to the applicant’s personal circumstances:
- The average grade for selection of beneficiary is calculated from all grades achieved to date in the study program of beneficiaries, this goes this way; for first-year academic students, the grade of the university entrance qualification is used; then for first-year Master’s students, the Bachelor’s grade is used. More so, grade of the admission requirements qualifying for the Master’s program can also be used
- Academic aptitude of applicants can includes internships, awards, prizes, special achievements and professional experience. These are all awards gained prior to the study program.
- In the selection process for Deutschlandstipendium Scholarship programme, consideration is also given to if applicants are studying under difficult personal circumstances. These may include:
- whether applicant have to finance their studies independently,
- if Applicant have a migration or refugee background,
- have health restrictions,
- have to care for a relative,
- Lastly, if applicant have children or are the first academics in their family.
Application Period for Deutschlandstipendium Scholarship Programme
The application period for Deutschlandstipendium Scholarship programme span from June till July of every year. Interested applicant must try as much as possible to carry out and successfully submit their application on or before the closing dates. Failure to submit the application before the deadline will lead to automatic disqualification from the scholarship programme.
Application Process Deutschlandstipendium Scholarship programme
Scholarship holders in Deutschlandstipendium Scholarship programme are selected by an internal university committee. Thus, all applications which are duly submitted on time and contain all the mandatory documents are included in the process in addition.
More so, the sponsors of the Deutschlandstipendium Scholarship programme are given the opportunity to participate in an advisory capacity. This helps in the allocation of their scholarship beneficiaries on the basis of anonymized applicant information from the sponsors. This means that the scholarship board do not receive any applicant information on the selection criterion “personal circumstances”. Exceeding the Standard period of Study.
In a normal circumstance, students who are under the Deutschlandstipendium Scholarship programme can only be funded with the Deutschlandstipendium within the standard period their study (Regelstudienzeit). However, according to the laws (§ 7.1), the maximum funding period for a beneficiary can be extended due to some serious reasons. These Serious reasons include the followings;
- a disability,
- pregnancy,
- the care and upbringing of a child or
- a study-related stay abroad.
If a beneficiary’s studies period are extended beyond the standard period of study for a serious reason, such beneficiary can still apply for the Deutschlandstipendium. However, the requirements is that an informal request for exceeding the standard period of study must be submitted by the beneficiary with the application letter. This must clearly explain the serious reasons why the studies period have been extended. The information contain herein must be supported by appropriate evidence in addition.
